How to listen to frequency music

You don’t need special gear or a meditation room. A few minutes and a little attention are enough. Here’s what we suggest.

1. Headphones or speakers

  • Headphones: essential for binaural beats and recommended for everything else. Over-ear headphones are more comfortable for longer sessions.
  • Speakers: perfect for pieces with a pure tone or pulse, in the background while you work, practise yoga or qigong, or get ready for bed.

2. Volume: lower than you think

This music is mixed to be felt more than heard. Turn it up just until you can hear it clearly, then back it down a notch. As a rule of thumb, you should be able to talk over it easily. Look after your ears: the WHO recommends staying below 60% of maximum volume for more than an hour.

3. Format

Every piece comes in FLAC 24-bit / 48 kHz (top quality, ideal at home) and MP3 320 kbps (for your phone). If you can hear the difference, FLAC keeps pure tones and low end more faithfully.

4. A small ritual

  1. Choose one simple intention: rest, focus, let something go.
  2. Sit or lie down in a comfortable position.
  3. Take three slow breaths before you press play.
  4. Listen to the whole piece, about three minutes, doing nothing else.
  5. Stay in silence for a minute when it ends.

5. When not to listen

Never while driving, operating machinery or whenever you need to stay alert. If you feel uncomfortable at any point, stop and rest.
