QiGong

The piece

QiGong is slow, flowing music in the spirit of traditional Chinese qigong: a softly played guqin with long slides and natural harmonics, a solo xiao bamboo flute, gentle guzheng arpeggios and a rare bronze temple bell.

Three layers live inside the music: the 741 Hz frequency, a 174 Hz drone and a breathing pulse that swells and fades once per bar. One breath per bar, slow enough to follow with your movements in qigong or tai chi practice, and quiet enough to let your attention rest in the body.

Why 3:33? The piece found its own length. In modern numerology, 333 is read as a sign to pause and realign.

The Solfeggio tradition considers 741 Hz the tone of expression and cleansing, linked to the throat centre, the neck, the jaw and the teeth, and 174 Hz the “frequency of the Earth”, to which it attributes a natural anaesthetic quality. Brainwave-frequency lists associate this very slow pulse range (0.20–0.26 Hz) with tooth pain relief.

About the genre terms. “Natural anaesthetic” and “pain relief” are associations from the tradition and from popular frequency lists, not medical claims. This piece does not relieve or treat pain and is no substitute for a dentist or doctor: if you are in pain, please see a healthcare professional.
